Biography
Zeu Hi
Eclectic painter and visual artist · born October 22, 1987
Originally from the French Riviera, she grew up in Sospel and studied in Monaco before continuing her artistic journey in Paris and Versailles. A graduate of the Jean Sablé trompe-l'œil school, she began her career as a decorative painter before leaving commissioned work to reclaim her own creative space. Back in Sospel, she fully committed to a more intimate and personal artistic approach.
After a period of exploration, two main threads emerged in her work: allegorical hearts in illustration, where she translates emotions through surreal compositions using alcohol inks, alongside a parallel series created with pastels. These hearts have become the visual language through which she explores feelings and emotional symbolism.
The Malmuse epic is a pictorial series dedicated to the male nude, in which she subverts art history by placing an archetypal figure—The Malmuse—at the center of her works. This man, tall and slender, with curly hair, a playful mustache, and marked by vitiligo, becomes the recurring alter ego of her paintings. In her manifesto piece, The Abduction of the Muse, she has him cross into the realm of the sacred feminine, reversing the roles traditionally assigned to models in the history of painting.
From this approach, other series have emerged, such as the Tutti Sexy, a whimsical vegetable garden born from the allegorical hearts and her discovery of a Coeur de Bœuf tomato. This collection of sexualized fruits and vegetables, blending humor and activism, celebrates gender diversity and boldly proclaims: "Vulva la Révolution!"
Nature being a constant source of inspiration, she also explores the microcosm through a series of insect illustrations that evolve into large-scale cut-paper compositions, vibrant with color and brought to life through alcohol inks.
Zeu Hi also collaborates with independent newspapers such as Le Mouais and Le Chiffon, bringing her artistic perspective to engaged publications. These collaborations have led to an ongoing body of work focused on ink portraits.
Beyond paper and canvas, Zeu Hi also works with ceramics, creating surreal and tribal heads that become vessels for her plants and cacti—a recurring motif in her universe. She also shapes objects and sculptures in polymer clay, exploring material and color through a tactile and sensory dialogue.
In each of her creations, Zeu Hi plays with deconstruction, subversion, and reinvention of artistic codes, asserting a singular, free, and vibrant vision.
